Death Knight Talent Guide For WOTLK

With the release of the latest world of warcraft expansion pack Will of The Lich King Expansion comes many new changes and additions to the game. The most notable is the addition of the first Hero class, the Death Knight.

If you've been playing since the expansion release, you've probably seen what seems like a million "DK's" running around on your server, especially if you like to PVP in the battlegrounds and are in the 50-59 bracket you've probably had games were the entire other team is Death Knights.

The reason behind this is because, when creating a Death Knight you start at level 55 and once you finish all the basic Death Knight quests you'll have all Blue quality gear, which means at level 58 you can go to the Battlegrounds and pretty much kill everyone in site easily.

So right away everyones yelling how Overpowered Death knights are, the actual fact is, like all classes first comes gear, then comes "skill" and right off the bat the Death Knight has better gear than most people in the 50-59 PVP BG bracket.

So, let's get in the the Death Knight Talent Builds.

Like all classes there's 3 Talent Trees.

Blood Tree
The Blood tree isn't very good when you first start your Death Knight, at least in PVP. I found it good in PVE but the other trees offer a lot more initially in PVP (later on however Blood is Very good in PVP).

The Blood tree is noted for it's ability to give you self healing skills. The blood tree can be looked at as a self healing, Semi high single target DPS build.

Frost
The Frost tree is what most consider the Tank and Burst FPS tree, in my opinion it also is harder of the 3 to master because you'll be using many spells and timing spells when certain talents go off to get huge burst damage. This is a good tree for PVP but note, you really need to learn to use it correctly, otherwise you'll think it is total garbage and worthless.

Unholy
Probably the most popular tree of them all for most Death Knights. Really most Death Knights at 80 are Unholy or Blood. The unholy tree grants a few specific benefits. First, theres a talent which makes your ghoul pet permanent, so you always have a pet out doing damage, and secondly the ability to upon death come back in ghoul form for another 45 seconds to kill things. In PVP coming back from the dead you can really dish out damage, I was surprised how much damage you could do in ghoul form.

Unholy is also the "AOE" tree and DOT tree. Your damage spells that do damage over time last longer and have shorter cooldowns.

I always tell people to disregard others opinions on what's the "best" spec, on my mage people criticize me for being Arcane, eventhough they never played a mage or know how much burst damage an arcane mage can do. Your playstyle will determine what build works best for you. I like to try them all and see what fits my playstyle and stick with it.
